Performed by Johnny Smith, edited by Jack Wilkins, compiled by Steve Silverman. Guitar solo book (single note lead transcriptions from combo recordings) for guitar. Series: Hal Leonard Artist Transcriptions. 72 pages. Published by Hal Leonard.
With standard guitar notation and chord names.
A collection of 21 standards from this cool jazz guitarist who's inspired leagues of other players, from Wes Montgomery to Jack Wilkins. Titles include: Dancing on the Ceiling * Easy to Love * I'll Remember April * Love for Sale * Moonlight in Vermont * Taboo * There's a Small Hotel * and more. Does not include tab.
"Nobody has ever played jazz guitar like J.S. His significance as a player would have been forgotten if it weren’t for the recent 8 CD set released by mosaic making all but three of the transcriptions available on disk.
This is strictly a single note transcription set, as there are no chords, which is a little disappointing because he was the undisputed king of unconventional chords. This book is for the advance guitarist as many of the solos break over the 220-bpm mark. The set is without tablature as the book was not written by J.S. and only he would know what fingerings he was using for these works. In my opinion there are only two truly heavy jazz guitarist one is Pat Martino and the other of course is Johnny Smith. For those that want the chords to these solos, those can be purchased at ChordMelody.com, they carry over 60 complete song transcriptions more than anyother place that I know of. It’s a shame that everything that J.S. ever played isn’t in print. "
